Leaving Colombo...

This heat is doing strange things to me.

I've been going to the gym.

That's not like me. For the last few months I've been a little, oh, what's the word? Lazy.

Something's happened in Sri Lanka that's made me remember how much I love running. I've even discovered Bikram Running. It's when you can't turn on the air conditioning in the gym (30 degrees)and sweating takes on a whole new meaning. I highly recommend it.

Just as well I've rediscovered my love for running: I. Can. Not. Stop. Eating. Curries, hoppers, flatbreads, coconut okra, spicy omelettes, lobster, and the freshest salads:

Phew. The person who invented buffets has a lot to answer for.

Luckily there's plenty of time for digesting on the beach:

Tomorrow we're leaving Colombo for the cultural triangle to explore the beauty and World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.

Three ancient capitals make up the points of the -triangle. Anuradhapura is the northern point, revered as the sacred capital city of Buddhism. Kandy lies in the south, famous for the sacred Temple of the Tooth. The medieval capital, Polonnaruwa lies to the northeast of Kandy.

Must see destinations also include Sigiriya with its rock fortress, or Lion's Mountain, dating from the 5th century. And the cave monastery in Dambulla.

It's an early start tomorrow as we're visiting the Elephant Orphanage enroute. And apparently the curries are going to be even spicier...Bring it on. Sri Lanka, let's have you. Wish me luck :-)
